Ming furniture was traditionally formed using only one material, and without adhesive or nails. In keeping with this tradition the Geppetto is made from a single piece of one material, a heavy-duty yet lightweight polycarbonate. Traditional Ming furniture would take days to construct, but thanks to efficient industrial production techniques within the molding process, the model can now be constructed easily and affordably. Constructed of polycarbonate, the chair has many notable features – light, durable and weather resistant. The Geppetto is stackable for easy storage and suitable for both.
Danny Fang opened his design office in Hong Kong in 2007. The Geppetto model demonstrates his fascination with the aesthetics of traditional Chinese furniture while catering to the needs and requirements of contemporary urban lifestyles. The chair’s intriguing name is in reference to the fabled story of Pinocchio’s creator, Geppetto, in Fang breathing new life and innovative techniques into traditionally wooden objects.
