No matter how beautifully decorated a room maybe, it simply isn’t complete without artwork. Whether they’re Matisse reproductions, contemporary photos or flea-market prints, the works themselves as well as how they’re displayed can bring out personality of both the home and their owners. Although there are no rules, there are basic hanging and framing techniques that showcase artwork to its best advantage.
Framed floral photographic print, whose colors complement the room, sets off the architecture of mantel. “Because it’s resting on the mantelpiece, the photograph gives a feeling of impermanence, just like a fresh cut bouquet placed next to it,” says Eli Wilner. “The live bouquets surrounding it become three dimensional still-lifes.”
